On July 31, 2001 the Department of Rehabilitation was honored to participate in the City of San Jose's Diversity Employment Day Career Fair.
This event launched "Diversity Career Fair Day" in San Jose and in doing so provided our community with an opportunity to bring together qualified job applicants from San Jose's diverse communities, to meet with over 30 corporate employers. Attendance was estimated at approximately 2200.
Some of the companies who were represented included: Actuate Corporation, Adept Technology,Inc., Adobe Systems, American Express, Minolta, Sony, and Sun Microsystems. Many of our clients were able to meet with employers and apply for positions that they were interested in. Feedback from our clients was positive.
The Department of Rehabilitation was able to use the Diversity Career Fair as an opportunity to inform and educate employers on our services to employers and clients. These services include: ADA consultations, Windmills, Loan Guarantee Program, Seminars on diversity or disability, and support services for clients during employment. We were also able to use the Diversity Career Fair as a Recruitment Medium. We provided job applications, job announcements and recruitment information to job seekers.
The Mission of the Department of Rehabilitation is to assist Californians with disabilities to obtain and retain employment and to maximize their ability to live independently in their communities. The City of San Jose's Diversity Employment Day Career Fair provides a venue in which we can accomplish this goal. Overall we felt that it was a very successful event and we are looking forward to our participation in Diversity Career Fair 2002.
